With the technology available to us in the 21st century, there are a number of ways to get in touch with other families raising children bilingually! Here are our recommendations:
Discussion Groups
One of the best way to find support is to discuss bilingual/bicultural child rearing with other parents. Discussion lists are a great way to achieve this from the comfort of your own home! Click here for a listing of our favorites.
International Postcard Exchange
The Bilingual/Bicultural Family Network has set up an International Postcard Exchange group for families raising children bilingually around the world! We have families from the US, Europe, Asia and even the Bahamas. Interested? Click here for more information and to sign up.
Blogging, blogging, blogging
A delightfully fun way of gaining insight into how other families are going about raising their children bilinguall and biculturally is to read other parents' blogs. Check out our favorite bilingual/bicultural family blogs! You might even see a few of our columnists there!
Attend an Event
If you live in the Seattle area, make sure to attend one of our presentations, seminars or workshops! It is a wonderful way to meet like-minded parents.
Playgroups
There benefits of language playgroups are priceless! If you live in the Seattle area, see our listing of local playgroups. If you live outside of Seattle, look in your local parenting listings for language playgroups. If you can't find one where you live, try starting your own!
